"P.S. I Love You" is th eighth track of the Beatles' first album, Please Please Me, and the B side of their first hit, "Love Me Do". I think it is the superior melody, but I suppose George Martin, who called the shots in the beginning, knew what he was doing.
It is a myth that John and Paul wrote most of their songs together. Very often one would contribute something to the other's music, but the contribution was generally not determinative. According to their interviews the real partnership between John and Paul was one of inspiration--competition if you will. If you are a Beatles person you can think of important exceptions to this general rule about the Lennon/McCartney composing "team." George, of course, was inclined to work entirely by himself.
"P.S. I Love You" was written mostly by Paul McCartney. Here is the general rule: the one singing the lead vocal is the one principally responsible for its composition.
