Bob Dylan, Positively Fourth Street

by Hector Diego

Everyone makes a big deal out of Dylan's socially and philosophically aware lyrics, and for good reason. But I maintain that without excellent melodies, Dylan would have gone nowhere.

Take, for instance, this song. It has a pleasant melody that sticks in your head. I would also point out that these lyrics have little to do with politics, social consciousness, or clever metaphysical observations--but if you ever wanted to complain about someone who used to be your friend...or so you thought--this song's for you.
